VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 3/ 26/13)—American Baptist Women’s Ministries announces the release of the newest volume in the G.I.R.L.S. discipleship resource series. Who Am I? Grades 3-5 contains four session plans to help young girls explore issues of identity. The four sessions address: understanding that God has created them with individual worth and purpose; their responsibility as unique creations of God to be true to themselves as they follow God’s path; respect for and from others combines with self-respect to create a foundation for healthy relationships; and that labels are an inadequate way to define themselves or others.
Each session includes helpful background information for the leader, a complete session plan which includes two options for each set to allow the leader to customize the learning experience to best fit the needs of the group, opportunities for girls to make commitments or develop an action plan based on what they have learned during the session, and enhancements suggested to allow girls to experience the lesson theme in additional ways.
Who Am I? Grades 3-5 is the first booklet available in a series addressing the overall topic of our Christian identity, to be released between 2013-2015. “Who Am I?” will also become available for grades 6-8 and 9-12; additional booklets will address “The Power of Story” (discovering the intersections between our personal story and the story of God’s people), and “The Future” (allowing girls the opportunity to explore God’s call upon their lives), both also available for grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
Virginia Holmstrom, executive director of AB Women’s Ministries, said “G.I.R.L.S., Girls in Relationship, Leadership, and Service, continues American Baptist Women’s Ministries’ commitment to girls as the church of today, and hope of tomorrow. This resource series will help women in congregations support the discipleship journey of girls and young women in unique and meaningful ways.”
