A Message of Gratitude from ABCUSA General Secretary Rev. Dr. Gina Jacobs-Strain

Dear Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV

As we enter the holiday season, I am reminded of the countless blessings that God has graciously bestowed upon us—gifts of love, family, community, and faith. It is a time to reflect on God’s goodness and to express our gratitude for the many ways we are sustained each day. This season calls us to pause and be thankful for all that we have received, both seen and unseen.

And as we lean into this season of gratitude, let us also remember that it is a season of prayer—a time to lift up those who are in the midst of great struggle. As we gather around our tables, let us not forget those who are suffering in places of war, oppression, and violence. Let us be intercessors for our brothers and sisters who are enduring the hardship of displacement and loneliness and those who have lost so much in the wake of natural disasters.

I ask you to be prayerful for all those in need of healing, restoration, and peace. American Baptists, we have an opportunity, in this season to share not just our thanks, but our hearts and actions of kindness, equity and genuine care for everyone we engage with. We can be instruments of compassion and hope by sharing the light and love of Christ with those whose lives are broken, for those who grieve, for those who long for justice.

May this season not only be a time of gratitude, but a time of humility and peaceful presence in our communities. As ambassadors for Christ bringing comfort and extending grace wherever it is needed. Let us pray for the miraculous touch of God’s hand in our lives. Let us be thankful, yes—and let us ask God to make us vessels of God’s grace in a hurting world.

Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season filled with the blessed assurance of a Risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

Peace be with you,
Rev. Dr. Gina Jacobs-Strain
