VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 1/18/23)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) seeks nominations for the Edwin T. Dahlberg Peace Award to be announced at the 2023 American Baptist Churches Biennial Mission Summit to be held June 23-25 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Edwin T. Dahlberg Peace Award is given to an individual or church for outstanding work for peace and justice. The awardee should demonstrate courageous leadership as well as a compassionate Christian witness for and with individuals marginalized in the United States and around the world.
This award is named in recognition of the ministry of Edwin T. Dahlberg, who was president of ABCUSA, 1946-1947, and president of the National Council of Churches, 1957-1960. He was instrumental in founding the Fellowship of Reconciliation as well as the Baptist Peace Fellowship. In 1964, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the first recipient of the award. Subsequent honorees have included Harold E. Stassen, William Sloan Coffin, Jimmy Carter, Gustavo Parajon, Ken Sehested, Marian Wright Edelman, Mark Hatfield, John Lewis, and LeDayne McLeese Polaski.
