Every Thursday night in May 2020, ABC of New York State is presenting an online forum for church leaders who are learning or updating their engagement with tech and digital tools for local churches. These live events are open to ABCNYS lay and ordained leaders. Following the events, the Tech Forums are shared by the region and will also be shared on the ABCUSA website on this page. The events are coordinated by Rev. Jerrod Hugenot.

Sound Matters: Our guest presenter is Dr. Jonathan Malone, an ABC/Rhode Island pastor with many longtime ties to ABCNYS. For a decade, Jonathan has hosted and produced his own podcast “Twelve Enough” while serving in local church ministry. He will share about podcasting as well as the basic tech that helps improve the audio experience for whatever you do online.

Sunday Morning Worship: Our guest presenters: Rev. Stephanie Schneider (ABY Coordinator and pastor, FBC Glens Falls and Village BC, Ft. Edward) joins Rev. Ken McKenzie (pastor, West Winfield Federated Church) to present on what it takes to start a live stream or pre-record a worship service with technology you have available (or can easily access), troubleshoot areas of difficulty, and ways to use the weekly service to foster church life (education, prayer life, fellowship, etc.).

Stewardship, E-Giving and COVID19: Our guest presenter: Rev. Stacy Emerson serves nationally as Stewardship Consultant for the American Baptist Churches/USA and locally as the pastor of FBC West Hartford, CT. Stacy offers her insights into the current context we’re all navigating. How do good stewardship principles, the accelerated shift for many churches to offer e-giving, and the challenges of COVID19’s present and future impact upon local church ministry and congregational giving.

Tech and Our Church’s Future: Now that we’ve jumped into new ways of conducting church worship, keeping people connected, and managing church needs virtually, what will we keep in the time ahead? What might we discard? How do we manage tech and ministry in sustainable ways and invest wisely in the reality that we’ve been doing church in a digital age, but COVID19 heightened our need for it?
