ABHMS Seeks Nominations for Edwin T. Dahlberg Award Recognizing Courageous Leadership in Justice and Peace

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (ABNS 10/4/24)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) seeks nominations for the Edwin T. Dahlberg Peace Award to be announced at the 2025 American Baptist Churches Biennial Mission Summit scheduled on July 3-6 in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Dahlberg Award is given to an individual or church for outstanding work for peace and justice. The awardee should demonstrate courageous leadership and a compassionate Christian witness for and with individuals marginalized in the United States and around the world.

This award is named in recognition of the ministry of Edwin T. Dahlberg, former president of both American Baptist Churches USA, 1946-1947, and the National Council of Churches, 1957-1960. He was instrumental in founding the Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Baptist Peace Fellowship.

In 1964, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the first recipient of the Dahlberg Award. Subsequent honorees include Harold E. Stassen, William Sloan Coffin, Jimmy Carter, Gustavo Parajon, Ken Sehested, Marian Wright Edelman, Mark Hatfield, John Lewis, and LeDayne McLeese Polaski.

The deadline for nominations is November 15, 2024. Click here to access and complete the online nomination form. For more information, contact Sue Peterman at 610-768-2394 or sue.peterman@abhms.org.

American Baptist Home Mission Societies partners with American Baptists to promote Christian faith, cultivate Christ-centered leaders and disciples, and bring healing and transformation to communities across the United States and Puerto Rico.

American Baptist Churches USA is one of the most diverse Christian denominations today, with approximately 5,000 congregations comprised of 1.3 million members, across the United States and Puerto Rico, all engaged in God’s mission around the world.
