VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 9/26/23)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) extends heartfelt thanks to the Christian Community Credit Union (CCCU) for a gratefully received $5,000 donation to the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) fund for the survivors of the Maui wildfires. Though authorities revised the number of fatalities downward in mid-September from 115 to 97, the conflagration remains the deadliest wildfire in the United States in more than a century.
Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, ABHMS executive director, said: “As the people of Maui now seek to recover from the historic wildfires that devastated lives and property, ABHMS thanks CCCU for their generous $5,000 contribution toward disaster relief for the victims.” He also recognized that the CCCU donation would go a long way towards securing emergent and long-term support for Maui: “CCCU’s generosity advanced our One Great Hour of Sharing offering considerably. Further, it reflects CCCU’s long-standing benevolence in partnering with American Baptists to address human needs in times of crisis.”
A faith-based, mission-driven financial cooperative, California-based Christian Community Credit Union (CCCU) exists to assist Christ followers in living and giving more abundantly. Named American Baptist Ministers Credit Union when founded in 1957, CCCU has since seen membership increase both domestically and abroad to support churches, ministries and their constituents, as well as Christian institutions, seminaries, retirement homes and other missions.
“We are proud to partner once again with our friends at American Baptist Home Mission Societies to help the people of Maui in this tragic time” said Blair Korschun, president and CEO of CCCU. “Beyond our American Baptist heritage, we share with ABHMS a mutual heart and devotion to help those in need, rooted in Christian compassion.” He added that the staff and members of CCCU are grateful for ABHMS’ continued efforts to empower those who are the hands and feet of Jesus on the ground, assisting in disaster, recovery and renewal. “We are delighted to have been able to donate toward that goal in years past and the present day.”
