VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 10/18/21)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) and Judson Press are pleased to announce that the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Price has been named publisher of Judson Press. She had been serving as senior editor.
As publisher of Judson Press, Price helps individuals explore, discover and encourage the joy of reading and writing through various topics and writing styles. Her goals, she says, are to “create an opportunity for writers to discuss their book ideas; invite more authors with multiple abilities; provide more books and resources regarding the environment, climate control, clean food and water; and continue to address such challenges as racism, sexism and economic exploitation.” Price also seeks to explore trends/thoughts and book discussions for Christian educators and educators in general as well as pastors, children, teens and young adults.
Commenting on her appointment, Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, CEO of Judson Press, noted that Dr. Price will lead Judson’s repositioning strategy as the 200th anniversary of this venerable Christian publishing ministry approaches in 2024. “She integrates a strong background in the publishing profession with practical ministry in the church, teaching experience in the academy and a passion for reading,” he says.
Well-qualified for this ministry, Price previously served as vice president of Content at Urban Ministries Inc., Calumet City, Ill.; and minister on staff at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.; Mount Zion Baptist Church, Seattle, Wash.; and at Lutheran and United Methodist congregations in New York and California. She has authored and co-authored several books.
A respected educator, Price has taught Church Organization: Technology & Social Media at McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago; and Christian Education at Howard University School of Divinity, Washington, D.C. She has conducted workshops throughout the United States—including at the “Publishing in Color” writers conference—about Christian education, writing, curriculum and book publishing.
Price holds a B.A. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, with a concentration in Special Education, from American University, Washington, D.C.; an M.Div. from Colgate Rochester (N.Y.) Crozer Divinity School; and a Ph.D. from the School of Theology at Claremont, Calif. She holds a certificate in Basic Sign Language.
