VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 8/23/17)—Now available at no cost online is “Mission from the Gospels,” a Bible study with a missional twist. Intended to encourage small groups—Christian education classes, home Bible studies or youth clubs—to engage in mission in their communities, this resource interprets the historic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as well as Acts through a missional lens for the present age.
In partnership with American Baptist Churches of Wisconsin, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) created Mission from the Gospels in response to faith communities’ need for a biblically based resource to guide them into the sometimes-uncharted territory of mission‐service.
“God is doing wonderful things in many faith communities as the vision of the kingdom of God expands from inside church facilities to the world that lies at churches’ doorsteps,” says the Rev. Dr. Ronald Carlson, ABHMS missional church strategist. “However, we are also seeing that with newfound engagement by faith communities come newfound challenges and questions.”
The study is comprised of five units, each taking four to five weeks to complete. It is recommended that participants meet for 45-90 minutes weekly to study and interact. The end of each week’s lesson suggests activities to explore.
