VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 3/3/14)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) recommends a variety of free resources offered by Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America (BPFNA) to help individuals and churches address issues of concern in today’s world.
Most recently released is “What Your Church Can Do About Human Trafficking,” a publication that includes history and definitions; statistics; theological reflections; perspectives from Baptist pastors and missionaries around the world; specific suggestions for action; an outline for leading the congregation in a class on the subject; and a list of additional related resources. This 12-page offering is the latest in a series that includes pieces regarding gun violence, gang violence and climate change. In addition to printed resources, other BPFNA resources include audio-visual presentations, speakers and training.
BPFNA gathers, equips and mobilizes Baptists to build a culture of peace rooted in justice. The organization celebrates and supports individuals and churches actively engaged in God’s work for peace and justice by raising the visibility of these efforts through its publications and website, bringing peacemakers together in regional and international gatherings, and providing resources. BPFNA also actively connects with peacemakers from other traditions—faith-based and secular—to build alliances that cooperate on the common goal of a more just and peaceful world.
“This resource, as well as many of the other resources offered by Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America, or Bautistas por la paz, aligns with the values of ABHMS,” says Rev. Fela Barrueto, ABHMS national coordinator, Prisoner Re-entry and Aftercare Ministry, who serves on BPFNA’s board of directors. “At ABHMS, we are committed to working for discipleship, community and justice. In partnering with BPFNA, ABHMS serves those who are struggling. There can be no peace without justice.”
